What is a Sump Pump

A sump pump is a device that reroutes water out of the lowest area of your home to another location. Sump pumps work when water rises in a basin to a predetermined level, which activates a float switch. The water is then vacuumed up through a tube and is discharged outside usually to a storm drain or well. A properly functioning sump pump is critical during heavy rainstorms, in basements that are at risk for flooding, and in areas with high water tables.
